Want to upgrade to Solaris 11.3 – Go ahead it’s easier than you think

Upgrade to Solaris 11.3

At Acardia, as you would expect from one of the UK’s top Oracle hardware resellers we have a number of production and test Solaris servers.  One of these systems is a SPARC T5120; this system is used as our SAMBA server.  This server was running Solaris 11.2, as a test we decided to upgrade this ‘live’ server to the latest version of Solaris 11.3.

Process

Normally when you upgrade an Operating System, there is a lot of planning, sourcing the files, manuals to read (or google) and most importantly backups.   With Solaris 11.3 upgrades the process is slightly different.  Just one command – 40 minutes wait and finally a reboot :

root@solaris11:~# pkg update –accept
