Oracle have just released version 3.4 of OVM.

The big difference in this version is the inclusion of “storage live migration” making it possible to change the storage device on which a VM resides while the VM keeps running.  OVM 3.4 is based on XEN 4.4 which includes support for large VM’s of up to 256 vCPU’s.  This new version includes a host of security and performance enhancements as well as the adoption of OVM (Open Virtualisation Format).

OVM is important for customers considering moving from VMWare as it offers the ability to import and export .OVA files.

If you are wondering why you would migrate from VMWare – HARD PARTITIONING!!! – OVM is not only free (support is also free on Oracle x86 systems) but will save you thousands of £’s if you are using Oracle DB or Applications.
