Updating Solaris 11

Get Ready for Solaris 12 – Update to the latest Solaris 11 SRU

To get ready for the upgrade to Solaris 12 later this year it is important to make sure your currently version of Solaris 11 is fully patched.  It you have a current Oracle support contract then you can use the Oracle Solaris repository to make sure you are completely up to date:

Step 1 : Download the Certificate and Key : https://pkg-register.oracle.com/register/certificate/

Step 2: Copy both the key and cert to the server(s) that you wish to update.

Step 3: Log on as root and cd to the directory that you copied the two files.

Step 4: Issue the following command (no line break) : pkg set-publisher -k ./pkg.oracle.com.key.pem -c ./pkg.oracle.com.certificate.pem -G “*” -g https://pkg.oracle.com/solaris/support/ solaris

Step 5: Check to make sure it worked : pkg publisher  – you should see the new Solaris publisher listed as ok and online.

Step 6: Update : pkg update

Step 7: Reboot
