WebSphere Extended Deployment Compute Grid

Features and benefits

Todays business environment needs smarter IT solutions that respond to changing business demands. To address these demands, companies need an integrated solution that delivers simplified solutions across a wide range of business processes.

WebSphere Extended Deployment Compute Grid provides a multi-functional and multi-platform Java Batch solution that improves operational efficiency of business transaction processing. With support for batch jobs alongside online transactions, WebSphere Extended Deployment Compute Grid delivers a near real-time user experience while optimizing costs.

Simplify batch management

  • Manages Java batch applications: deploy to non-Java EE execution environments such as z/OS, CICS etc.
  • Supports qualities of service of WebSphere Application Server for z/OS: security, thread pooling, connection pooling, scalability, checkpoint algorithms, restart mechanisms, multi-threading and threshold policies and z/OS integration
  • Integrates workload-management for goals-oriented execution: batch jobs can be ad-hoc, event driven, batch throttled, paced and reprioritized to meet batch and OLTP service level agreements

Increase production and operational efficiency

  • Programming model enhancements: calendar and clock scheduling of jobs, reuse of assets written in Java, COBOL, PL/I, C/C++, integration with enterprise scheduler, and increase throughput for collocating scenarios (Collocation = executing data and business logic on same LPAR for z/OS)
  • Usage reporting with System Management Facilities (SMF) records
  • Installation Manager based install support: compatible with distributed and mainframe platforms and cloud ready, WAS v7 and WAS v8 for distributed and z/OS platform
