Five resources to help you maximize the value of IBM PureApplication System

The purpose of this series of five articles is to help you understand how to prepare for and maximize the value of PureApplication System in your organization from an application-centric point of view. The series is intended for application owners and developers who write and deploy mission critical application and want to understand the tools IBM has provided to quickly onboard applications to gain maximum benefit from PureApplication System.

Part 1: Onboarding Applications Overview | by Steve Abrams and Robbie Minshall

Highlights the PureApplication System capabilities as they relate to the application lifecycle. This will help you understand how to identify and onboard your existing applications as workloads, and which capabilities are best suited for your applications. Part 1 is your roadmap that guides you through the rest of the series.

Part 2: Is your application ready to become virtual? | by Kyle Brown

Part 2 discusses which deployment option is best suited for your particular application when preparing for PureApplication System. You learn to distinguish between the virtual application and virtual system approaches. By answering a series of questions, you can decide which deployment option is best suited for your application.

Part 3: Choosing a database option | by Jason Chan and Hua Lu

Part 3 introduces the integrated DB2® database formats that are found in PureApplication System. It describes the different forms of DB2 found in PureApplication System, helps you decide which forms to choose in different situations, and covers some of the recommended best practices using DB2 inside PureApplication System.

Part 4: Onboarding applications to the cloud using the Advanced Middleware Configuration tool | by Barton Akeley and John Gough

Part 4 identifies applications that you can onboard to PureApplication System and how to use the Advanced Middleware Configuration tool and IBM Workload Deployer to onboard the applications and to deploy new instances of the applications into the cloud.

Part 5: Developing virtual application patterns for IBM Workload Deployer with Rational Application Developer | by Chris Brealey

Part 5 provides instructions on how to use Rational® Application Developer together with IBM Workload Deployer to develop virtual application patterns. You learn how to create and manage Workload Deployer servers, then use a combination of the Virtual Application Builder in Workload Deployer and the wizards and editors of Rational Application Developer to work with virtual application patterns, their components, and the projects and source code that implement them.
