Among 300 the new capabilities brought by the update will be an expanded RAM capacity of 32TB and improved support for the Oracle VM virtualisation platform. Additionally, the update will bring new tools for scanning, auditing and reporting records on systems.

Oracle executive vice president for systems John Fowler said that many of the components in the OS have been designed to complement Oracle’s database platform as well as the ExaData hardware unveiled earlier this week by the company at the OpenWorld conference.

“The Oracle Solaris engineering team has worked closely with the Oracle Database engineering team to deliver unique value that customers can only get from an Oracle solution,” said Fowler.
