Oracle Introduces New Sun x86 Servers

  • Oracle has announced a new line of Sun x86 servers, delivering the industry’s best x86 platform for running Oracle software and other enterprise applications.
  • Oracle’s Sun x86 servers deliver unrivaled performance and reliability for applications and databases, while also offering the tools needed for cloud-enabled deployments including operating system, virtualization, infrastructure provisioning, and system management at no extra cost when combined with Oracle Premier Support services.
  • With Oracle Solaris or Oracle LinuxOracle VM and Oracle Enterprise Manager Ops Center, the new Sun x86 servers with Intel® Xeon® E5 processors, also help reduce costs, streamline data center operations and offer better performance and reliability.
  • Oracle’s Sun x86 servers have set multiple world record benchmarks, demonstrating superior performance on computational, application and enterprise workloads, including new world records on SPEC CPU2006, SPECjEnterprise2010, and Oracle E-Business Suite R12.1.3.
  • Over the previous generation, the new Sun x86 servers deliver up to 87 percent better computational performance and feature increased memory and network bandwidth, which enables customers to run additional software and complete tasks faster in the same physical footprint.
  • Oracle’s Sun x86 servers running Oracle Linux and Oracle Solaris with Oracle VM can deliver up to 50 percent lower total acquisition, support and operating costs versus HP systems with VMware and Windows, and provide up to 139 percent return on investment.
  • Oracle also announced new NEBS Level-3 certified Netra x86 servers for communications, military, or other application environments requiring continuous reliable service, long system lifecycles and the stability to withstand harsh environmental conditions for uninterrupted system availability.

Oracle’s x86 Servers Set Four New World Records, Deliver Outstanding Performance Running SAP Solutions

  • Oracle’s latest x86 servers have set four new world records including:
    • SPEC CPU2006: Oracle Solaris and Oracle Solaris Studio software represent a well-optimized development platform that enables customers to compile and run their software most efficiently. Together, they accelerate Sun x86 systems past the competition with an absolute world record on the SPECfp2006 benchmark and set a SPECint_rate2006 record for all two processor servers (1).
    • SPECjEnterprise 2010: Oracle’s compact 1U Sun Fire X4170 M3 server running Oracle WebLogic Server with Oracle Linux delivered more than double the performance of IBM’s 2-socket systems based on either x86 or POWER architectures and set a world record for all two processor machines (2) (3). Oracle’s x86 systems already hold an x86 world record and the best single node result on this Java application benchmark (4).
    • The Oracle E-Business Suite R12.1.3: Oracle’s Sun Fire X4270 M3 server posted the fastest results on the Payroll batch component of the Oracle E-Business Suite R12 X-large benchmark, completing the workload in less than 20 minutes. This result demonstrates that Oracle’s x86-based servers, running Oracle Linux, can deliver excellent throughput and are well suited for customers running batch applications in conjunction with Oracle Database 11g R2 (5).
  • Oracle’s Sun Fire X4270 M3 server, with Oracle Solaris, excels in running enterprise applications, such as the SAP® enhancement package 4 for the SAP ERP application Release 6.0 with Oracle Database 11g, and delivered the highest result on the SAP Sales and Distribution (SD) standard application benchmark among all systems based on Intel Xeon E5 processors (6).
