System requirements

The hardware requirements listed below are the minimum requirements for a small, pilot deployment and will not be sufficient for large-scale production deployments. Hardware resources should be planned based on usage expectations.

Known Issues

In certain scenarios, Technotes or APARs on the Sametime Support site document known problems or cases where IBM has determined that a particular device, operating system, browser, or software application cannot be integrated with the Sametime software platform without extensive testing or extensive code changes

Hardware Requirements

All Applicable AIX OS Lotus Gateway Note:  Quantities listed are a minimum.  Plan your deployment based on usage expectations.
  • AIX - 10GB total, 9GB which can be configurable, 1GB which must be available in /tmp
  • IBM i - 5GB free space recommended (3GB minimum) and a minimum of 6 disk drives with caching disk controller.
  • Linux - 10GB total, 9GB which can be configurable, 1GB which must be available in /tmp
  • Solaris 10 (SPARC) - 10GB total, 9GB which can be configurable, 1GB which must be available in /tmp
  • Windows - 10GB total, 8.5GB which can be configurable, 1.5GB which must be available in %TEMP%
Additional disk space needed to install DB2 for all supported operating systems except IBM i:
  • Windows - 5.5GB total, 4GB which be configurable, 500MB which must be available in C:\IBM (and have sufficient space for expected database growth), 1GB which must be available in %TEMP%
  • AIX, Linux, Solaris - 5.5GB total, 2.5GB which be configurable, 2GB which must be available in /home (and have sufficient space for expected database growth), 1GB which must be available in /tmp

Meeting Server database consumption can vary greatly depending on usage.  Plan your deployment based on usage expectations.  Minimum additional disk space needed to install DB2 for all supported operating systems except IBM i:

Sametime Proxy support for the native iPhone Instant Messaging client is optional.  If this feature is deployed, the Sametime Proxy will require DB2.  Database consumption can vary greatly depending on usage.  Plan your deployment based on usage expectations.  Minimum additional disk space needed to install DB2 for all supported operating systems except IBM i:

*IBM i - 6 GB physical memory (RAM) minimum for Gateway, System Console, Meeting Server and Proxy Server (includes workloads from conventional co-located DB2 and LDAP deployment with WebSphere servers on the same IBM i systems);  4 GB physical memory (RAM) minimum for Community Server and Classic Meeting Server plus 1 GB for each additional Sametime and Domino server.

Classic Meeting Server, Community Server, Lotus Gateway, Meeting Server, Proxy Server, System Console Sametime is supported on Power 7 systems provided:
  • P6 compatibility mode is used
  • Sametime already supports that major release of AIX.  A later AIX TL may be required for Power 7 support.
  • The release of AIX being used is supported by prerequisites such as DB2, Domino, and/or WebSphere

Classic Meeting Server, Community Server, Lotus Gateway, Meeting Server, Proxy Server, System Console Sametime is supported on Power 7 systems provided:
